Worn by the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt, Nemes is reinterpreted with basic garter fabric and stripes of various thickness, shaped with short rows. Combining elements such as the colored stripes and the helmet shape of this headpiece modernizes it into a hooded scarf, trimmed with polished I-cord edges.

Nemes is worked top down, starting with an I-cord, then continued by picking up stitches. The hood is shaped in segments worked with short rows, each segment worked in different colors. The work is divided into 2 pieces, the stitches in between bound off with an I-cord. These 2 pieces are worked separately in a color stripe garter stitch pattern, while I-cords continue all around the work. Stitches are decreased every 6th row, with the color stripe pattern continuing to the end. Stitches are bound off with an I-cord.
C1 uses almost a skein for size 2. Consider having a second skein of C1, if you’re working size 2.
