The hidden architecture of the Byzantine Palace that lies under Istanbul’s Sultanahmet inspires the curved structure of circular and bricklike stitches in this asymmetrical shawl, worked in 3 progressive tonal stripe shades plus 2 neutrals.

Gauge: 24 sts x 50 rows = 4” / 10cm in Linen Stitch. Gauge is not crucial for size, but is for yarn consumption

Techniques: Slip stitch, yarnovers, shaping using increases, I-cords.





Boukoleon Shawl is worked flat from the narrow end predominately in solid color linen stitch, with 3 st I-cord
edges. While the MC1 placement remains constant, MC2 and the 3 contrast colors alternate in 44-row striped sections to shift to a new solid color section. Each striped section ends with enlarged ‘double’ eyelet rows. The shawl finishes with linen stitch stripes in all colors and a MC1 eyelet border.
